About the Writing Coach
Hi there! My name is Yvette M. Williams, Ph.D., a university professor with an interdisciplinary background in the natural and social sciences. My training enables me to offer my clients broad knowledge and expertise for writing in several disciplines and for a variety of writing products. I have eight years of undergraduate teaching experience in which I have administered and assisted students with writing assignments such as essays, reports, and research papers. My students are diverse in age, race, ethnicity, as well as academic interests and abilities. One of my proudest accomplishments as an instructor is that over 50% of my students pass my courses with a C or better. For additional information about my educational background and professional activities, please visit my LinkedIn profile.
I created The College Wordmsmith as a service to demonstrate my love of teaching, writing, and helping college students. I was inspired to promote excellence in writing by using the word wordsmith, which the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines as, " A person who works with words, especially a skillful writer." My goal is to inspire college students that they too can achieve writing excellence and become skillful writers.
In addition to teaching, I pursue professional development in freelance writing and I maintain affiliations with organizations such as the International Society of Professional Writers and Editors, the Editorial Freelancers Association, and the Association of Transcribers and Speech-to-Text Providers. I have won several scholarships and awards valued at $6,000 for professional development activities over the last four years. In my leisure time I enjoy creative writing pursuits in poetry and prose, amateur photography, jogging, Pilates, and jazz music.
